Math games are a great way to add fun to learning. Preschoolers love to actively learn! Rolling dice, tossing a ball, or picking a card adds a hands-on opportunity to discover. The Roll to Fill math game can be played individually, with a partner, or in a group setting like circle time while working on number identification, counting, and one to one correspondence. The game reinforces the skills that 3-5 year-olds are working on in a super fun way!
To play, gather the supplies needed for the Roll to Fill game. You will need a shape to fill (cookie cutter, tray, bucket), dice to roll, and objects to fill with (pom moms, Unifix cubes, Legos, cotton balls). Have your preschoolers take turns rolling, identifying the number, and counting the objects one at a time. Estimate how many it will take to fill the object. Add as the game goes or count the total at the end.
Explore how different shapes and sizes will have different numbers needed to fill those object. Talk about fewer and more, and full and empty. Use opportunities to talk about what number comes next how important it is to only count one object at a time.
