Come have some fun down on the farm with our colorful pig bottoms! I loved how simple this activity was to put together. My preschoolers loved how silly it was! Somehow pigs were rolling around in the mud and their tails fell off. Completely unbelievable, but to my 3 year-olds, they giggled and then got right to work putting the tails back on the colorful piggy bottoms!

Putting together this activity took just minutes. I took our favorite IKEA trays (see them here) and covered the bottom of the trays with our brown colored rice (made with these water colors).
Our colorful pigs were cut freehand. I went with a circle shape on the top with 2 square legs at the bottom. I cut one out of a manilla file folder as a pattern, adjusted it a little to look more like a pig rear end, and then cut out the other colors. I cut out the pig bottoms the same colors of the pipe cleaners that I had on hand.
Each pipe cleaner was cut into 4 equal lengths. I twisted the pieces individually around my finger to make it curly. You could also use a pencil. All of curly pig tails were put into the brown rice (the mud).
The pig bottoms were spread out around the table. I added kid-friendly tweezers (we call them squeezers!) to the trays and invited my preschoolers to come and save the tail-less pigs!
Pig tails were sorted, colors were matched, and fine motor skills were strengthened! There may have been a little mud flying too, but that just added to the fun for my preschoolers!
When the pig tails were all sorted, the tails were buried back in the mud for the next farmer!
This activity was a big hit with my preschoolers! You can find more learning activities with colors {HERE} and fine motor skills {HERE}.
