My preschoolers have had a blast shaking eggs to Laurie Berkner’s, I Know a Chicken, song! Our egg shakers are simple to make – plastic eggs filled with rice (beans, pebbles, beads) and taped or glued together. Ta Da! Super simple, super fun egg shakers. Because the kids cannot get enough of this song, I came up with a new way to shake some eggs to go along with it. The bonus was that we were going to investigate making secondary colors at the same time!
We’ve mixed colors in other fun ways this year, but I think this would be a favorite to most. Maybe it was because everyone was singing to each other, giggling, and having so much fun while still so surprised that it worked again each time the shaking was complete!
Egg Shaking Color Mixing Supplies:
- plastic eggs
- container with lid
- paper to fit inside container
- paint
Add the paper to the bottom of the container. We used a clear plastic spinach container so the preschoolers could see the paint mix. Squeeze paint colors into the plastic eggs. Choose the colors of the plastic eggs to match the colors you are mixing! Add the eggs to the container (don’t click to close completely). Seal the top on the container and SHAKE!
Don’t forget to sing along! {Download the song from Amazon or iTunes today!}
Seriously we did this 12 times today and it NEVER. GOT. OLD.
Mixing colors has never been more fun!
