Heart Number Match Clip Cards

Our absolute favorite set of clip cards to use independently with young preschoolers (and even toddlers!) includes simple shape matching.  The simplicity of the activity allows the clip cards to be a learning center in my classroom or a quiet activity at home.  Our Heart Number Match Clip Cards is a similar activity that focuses on exact matching of numbers instead of counting.  The set works on number recognition, fine motor skills, and includes the sweetest hearts theme!

To set up this activity you will need clothespins, cardstock, a resuable freezer bag, and a laminator for lasted durability!

The free printable game includes hearts with the number 1-20 on them.  The object of the activity is to correctly clip the matching number on the heart.

Print out the attached file below on cardstock, especially if you are not planning on laminating the set.  I recommend laminating printable activities so that they last longer.  It’s no fun to have to keep printing out parts of an activity and wasting ink!

The activity helps preschoolers, kindergarteners, and even toddlers recognize their numbers.  Being exposed to numbers promotes conversation and meaningful learning opportunities.

The act of simply matching numbers without having to count (and possibly making a mistake) builds confidence and decreases frustration for the youngest learners.

My preschoolers are going to love this set of heart number matching clip cards during our Valentine’s Day theme!

I realized recently that many of my clip cards that I’ve created are clipped on the right side of the card.  I moved the possible answers to the bottom of the cards to make it easier for left-handers too!

Using clothespins help strengthen fine motor muscles in little fingers and hands.  It’s not as easy as you would think!  Opening and closing the clothespins is hard work for preschoolers.

Another fun way to mark the correct matching number on the clip cards is with colorful acrylic hearts, candy hearts, or hearts cut out of craft foam.  Simply set the heart on top of the correct answer!
