My favorite time of the year would have to be summer. I wear flip flops year round here in the south and would prefer to be to be hot over cold for sure. I am actually in the middle of booking our summer beach condo with hopes that our summer vacation actually happens. And if it does, there will be lots of swimming in the ocean and building sand castles. The cuties on our printable swim kids 10 frames for summer is the perfect addition to an end of school year, summer, or even start of the school year theme! This activity is a great way to practice counting skills and fine motor skills.
Swim Kids 10 Frames
The free printable set of swim kids 10 frames includes number cards 0-10. On each number card there is an empty 10 frame, the number to trace, and the number word.
To prep the math learning center, download the file from the pink button below. Print the cards on cardstock (especially if you are not laminating them) and cut them apart. Laminate the cards for added durability.
To play, add the swim kids 10 frame cards to a tray. Gather small manipulative such as snap cubes, pom poms, buttons, or even goldfish snacks. Add these to a small bowl or cup.
A dry erase marker is also needed to use to trace the numbers and number word.
Now that the math activity is prepped and ready to go, it’s time to play and learn!
Counting & Learning
I like to introduce learning centers like this swim kids 10 frames activity during circle time before allowing my preschoolers to go off and play. Practice identifying numbers on the cards and counting up to the number. Show an example of how the buttons are to be added to the card, one by one. While doing this, focus on how each button belongs in one square of the 10 frame.
Don’t forget to trace the dotted lines of the numbers. Show the example of how you would use correct number formation. Trace inside the letters in the number word too.
I’m a huge fan of also giving examples and non-examples about how to play AND how to clean up when my preschoolers are finished. I think it helps make it clear what is expected and my preschoolers find it funny when I am silly and over-exaggerating what should not be happening.
The swim kids 10 frames are perfect for practicing numbers, counting, 1:1 correspondence, fine motor, and prewriting skills.
They are also fun, which is a huge bonus!
