January bring a new year and all things winter in preschool! We’re all about cold weather (that we don’t get to experience where we live), snowmen, and PENGUINS. Now that it’s the new year, we’re also focusing on writing skills in my preschool classroom. Our penguin pre-writing tracing cards are the perfect way to combine it all!
Penguin Pre-Writing Tracing Cards
I am so excited about this free printable! The file that can be printed from the pink button below contains four levels of penguin pre-writing tracing cards. This means that different aged kids can all practice their writing skills together.
Print the penguin pre-writing tracing cards and laminate the pages before cutting them apart. You can also place the pages into page protectors if you don’t have access to a laminator.
The goal of the pre-writing activity is to trace the dotted lines while helping the penguin find a fish to eat!
Connecting the penguin to the fish promotes writing skills that will be needed as fine motor skills strengthen and encourages writing from left to right. Focusing on gripping the dry erase marker correctly is important too.
Sometimes when putting all of the pre-writing skills to work, tracing the lines is frustrating. I know in with some of my preschoolers, this happens. Some of my preschoolers also don’t have the fine motor skills yet to hold the marker steady enough to stay on those dotted lines.
This is why I decided to make a set of penguin pre-writing tracing cards without any tracing lines. The object is the same, but without any pressure!
Grab your set of penguin pre-writing tracing cards at the pink button below!
After you print the set, head over and check out another one of our favorite penguin counting activities!
