Some of the very first small group activities that I introduce to my preschoolers are printable dice games! Rolling a die adds an extra element of fun to any activity with little kids. These learning activities focus on direction following, math skills, and fine motor pre-writing skills. Our shape roll & color math activity is the perfect printable learning center to reinforce shape identification and colors!
Shape Roll & Color
The free printable shape roll & color learning center includes 2 printable dice. Each die has 6 shapes on it. It also includes a recording sheet with 12 shapes.
To prep the dice simply cut each die out around the solid black line. Do not cut on the dotted lines.
After the die is cut out, fold along all of the tabs on dotted lines, and along the dotted lines in between all of the sides. Add glue to each tab. Fold the die together while holding the glued tabs agains the inner side of the die.
The glue will dry quickly, and you will be ready to roll!
Print the recording sheet and make enough copies for your home or classroom.
In my classroom, I always create 4 dice, so I print 2 pages of the dice. I like to have the option of including 4 preschoolers in a small group. And with 4 year-olds, everyone needs their own die to roll!
Roll & Learn
We write our names in pencil on the paper before we begin. This year, my class is all about coloring just like me. So they insist on coloring all of the shapes the exact color that they are on the die. For younger kiddos, using just one color works too!
Roll the die, identify the cute shape friend that was rolled, and find the matching shape on the recording sheet. Color that shape and roll again!
Keep rolling and coloring until all of the shapes are colored in!
Another skill we are working on right now is coloring in completely and with control. I have a range of fine motor skills in my classroom, so with these kind of printable activities, I focus on small motor movements and wrist control while they are coloring.
