Sunshine Alphabet Practice Letter Matching
This activity was inspired by our Heart Number Matching Clip Cards that my preschoolers loved playing with during our Valentine’s Day theme in my classroom. I was surprised that such a simple activity was such a hit! But the clip cards definitely built confidence in number recognition with my 3 year-olds.
To prepare the sunshine alphabet clip cards, simply print the file below!
I’m a fan of printing on cardstock to make sure the printable activities are more durable for my 3 year-olds (who are at time found trying to take my homemade activities apart), but if you are laminating the set with this laminating film, regular printer paper would also work!
Print, laminate, and then cut apart to save yourself a set of cutting the cards out twice.
Gather together a handful of clothespins to clip the letters on the cards. My preschoolers prefer that there are enough clothespins for each card in the activity.
This printable set includes 26 letter cards with 3 choices of letters to clip and match. The letters in this activity only include upper case letters. The object of the activity is to match the upper case letter in the cloud with the matching letter choice at the bottom.
This printable sunshine, spring or summer themed activity is great for preschoolers, older toddlers, or even kindergarteners who are looking for extra alphabet recognition practice.
The simple act of matching letters is a fun way to build alphabet recognition. The activity itself is almost self-correcting, so after a young learner is shown how to play, it can become an independent activity for the classroom or busy bag at home!
Clip the clothespin on the correct matching letter. Using clothespins also helps with fine motor skills, which strengthens muscles to get ready for writing!

My favorite part of activities like these, is that after my preschoolers have played with them for a few days, I just zip them up in reusable ziploc freezer bags until we want to get them out again. It make rotating activities in the classroom so easy to do!
