Back to School Alphabet Match

Going back to school is a fun time of year! It can be stressful as a preschool teacher or parent if you are not prepared. Thankfully it is easy to find activities that hit different learning levels and that are developmentally appropriate. It is a huge bonus when your preschoolers love them too! Whether it is a new literacy or math center, a new book for circle time, or a new game that makes everyone giggle, learning activities in preschool come in all forms. A great addition to your literacy centers and small group activities is our back to school alphabet match that includes uppercase and lowercase letters!

Back to School Alphabet Match

The back to school alphabet match includes 26 uppercase letter crayon box cards, 26 lowercase letter book cards, and an alphabet match & cover page.

To prepare this alphabet printable activity, download and print the file from the pink button below. Print the pages you will use on white cardstock. Cut the uppercase and lowercase letter cards apart on the gray dotted lines.

And if you are working with preschoolers, laminating is definitely recommended!

For the younger learners, start with just the uppercase set of crayon box cards only.

This will turn into just a matching game. So if your preschoolers have not mastered letter recognition of any kind, they can work on visual discrimination skills and find the letter that looks the same as the one on the card. It is an easy way to build confidence and expose your preschoolers to letters of the alphabet.

The back to school alphabet match letter cards can be used in a few different ways!

Easily create a memory type game and match uppercase and lowercase cards together. Another option is to print 2 sets of the same cards (either uppercase or lowercase) and match those letter cards.

Add letter mini erasers, buttons, or beads to cover the letters on the alphabet match & cover page.

Pick a crayon box or book alphabet card.

Identify the letter on the card.

Find the matching letter on the alphabet match & cover page.

Cover the letter and play again!

This literacy activity can be played in a small group setting, individually, or with partners. Print more than one alphabet match & cover page to allow more than one preschooler to play at one time.

There are so many ways to play, and no matter which way you pick, your preschoolers will be learning and engaged while practicing letters!
