Do you know any construction truck lovers? We sure do! My preschool classroom is full of them, and I have a couple of fans at home too. This super simpleconstruction zone sensory bin could not be easier to put together and you can adapt the materials around what you already have on hand. Rocks and construction trucks are always fun to play with!

Construction Zone Sensory Bin
To set up the construction zone sensory bin, I used these supplies:
- plastic construction vehicles
- pebble rocks
- large plastic bin
- alphabet rocks
I’m a huge fan or storing and reusing supplies when it comes to our activities! You may remember our alphabet rocks {HERE} and {HERE}. And our black pebble rocks were the perfect filler for our Jingle Bell Rock sensory bin last Christmas!
And we use this size bin every day in my preschool classroom!
I added all of the black pebble rocks to the bottom of the plastic bin. I piled the alphabet rocks as “boulders” at one end of the bin.
Now it was time for the construction vehicles to get to work!
Boulders and pebble rocks were loaded into the dump trucks.
Rocks were pushed and lifted and moved.
Ramps were built with the boulders to help the trucks get where they needed to go.
Imaginative conversation was occurring too. Vehicles were chatting. Pretend workers were arguing over the work that needed to be accomplished.
Pretend play is one of my absolute favorite parts of sensory play! This construction zone sensory bin is the perfect place to encourage pretend play while digging and moving all of those rocks.
It’s always fun when activities and books go together seamlessly!
Here are some of our favorite construction themed books that are perfect to read along with the construction zone sensory bin.

I made this sensory bin with my boys in mind. In my preschool class it seems that the boys get bored with a sensory activity before my girls do. When I seen this I knew that the boys in my class would love it. Have boys that ask me to bring this particular bin back out. I started with the bin with numbers written on the rocks. I have also made rocks with shapes, letters and even some sight words as we will be working on those this spring as the children get ready for kindergarten. Thank you for sharing this idea!
